Recently, the University of New Mexico athletics department surveyed Lobo fans to see what could be done to encourage more attendance at men’s basketball games. Some of the more popular responses included better incentives for purchasing season tickets, a discount for youth and a more family friendly environment in The Pit, better student involvement and more flexible group rates. In response to the feedback from Lobo fans, UNM athletics director Paul Krebs announced new ticket prices for the 2006-07 season today. UNM’s home schedule features 19 exciting games, including match-ups against Big 12 foes Colorado and Kansas State, arch-rival New Mexico State and eight Mountain West Conference games. The entire season will be celebration of “40 Years in The Pit,” beginning with the season opener against Abilene Christian, the same team that played the Lobos in the first game in The Pit on Dec. 1, 1966.

“We have taken a long look at the ticket prices for men’s basketball and I think our fans will be excited about some of the new concepts we have implemented,” stated Krebs. “The goal of our overall marketing strategy will be to create a more family friendly environment, get more students involved and make the 40th anniversary of The Pit a memorable one. The ticket strategies we have put in place should help us meet this goal.”

One of the first changes in the 2006-07 ticket pricing is the elimination of premium games. All tickets will be the same price for every game, which lowers the season ticket cost from the beginning. Season ticket prices start at $75 for students, $99 for youth and $207 for adults. As an incentive to purchase season tickets all season ticket holders will receive a Lobo Men’s Basketball Fan Pack. The Fan Pack includes a free Lobo basketball t-shirt and two (2) vouchers for any Lobo women’s basketball game. Another added benefit for season ticket holders is the opportunity to redeem all unused tickets for a later game. Redeemed tickets will be placed in bench rows 1-10 and the exact details of the ticket exchange program will be outlined in the season ticket mailing.

A complete list of single game and season ticket prices are below. The youth ticket prices available in the bench rows 1-10 and the mezzanine are new for the 2006-07 season. Also, season ticket buyers in the bench rows 1-10 will notice a near 10% savings off the face value of the ticket.
