OLIVER, B.C. – Former UNM women’s golfer Christina Spence, of Alberni Golf Club, Port Alberni, B.C., captured the 2006 B.C. Women’s Amateur title at 3-under 289 – an impressive 5 strokes over Kira Meixner of Richmond, B.C. who carded 2-over 294. The championship was held at the Fairview Mountain Golf Course in Oliver, B.C., on June 29, 2006.
“I’m hitting the ball as good as I ever have,” says Spence. “My putting was going well, my ball striking was good, may attitude was excellent, I was positive, nothing got me down – I came to win.
Pitt Meadows, Ashley Hogg finished third at 5-over 297 followed by fourth place finisher, Kirby Dreher of Fort St. John who shot 6-over 298 .
While playing with Jackie Little and Ali Stinson on Tuesday, Spence shot the low round of the week and claimed the course record. “Everything was just perfect – A.J. Eathorne was here on Tuesday and I always play well when she shows up,” added Spence. “I’m superstitious, so that was a good omen. It was also very special to play with Jackie and Ali – Jackie’s a legend, a hero – it was great for us to take home the championships.”
For the Women’s Amateur Championship, Fairview Mountain played to a par 73 with a course rating of 74.3, slope 132.
