Lobos Make it Four Straight MWC Titles

Bend, Ore. – New Mexico led wire-to-wire as they won their fourth consecutive Mountain West Conference Championship. UNM was led by senior Jay Choi who won medalist honors and has been a part of all four titles. The Lobos shot a final round 10-over par 298 on the par-72, 7,630 yard Crosswater Course at Sunriver Resort in Bend, Oregon, and finished at 1-over par (284-283-298=865). UNM edged San Diego State by five strokes as the Aztecs finished at 6-over par.

Choi was the only player in the field under par as he finished at 1-under par. Choi shot a final round 1-over par 73 to edge Tom Miles of TCU and Andrew Scott of San Diego State by one stroke. The win for Choi is his second of the season with the other coming at the National Invitational in late March.

Other Lobo results were junior Charlie Beljan tied for fourth at 1-over par (75-68-74=217), senior Mark Anderson tied for sixth at 2-over par (71-72-75=218), freshman Steve Saunders tied for 14th at 4-over par (70-74-76=220) and freshman Nick Geyer tied for 20th at 7-over par (71-73-79=223).

The MWC Championship earns the Lobos a bid to the NCAA Regionals, which will likely be in Tucson, Ariz., on May 18-20. Full results of the MWC Championships can be found on the Golfstat website at www.golfstat.com.
