SALT LAKE CITY UT – The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team was able to win the last match of the weekend as they defeated No. 58 UNLV 4-3 today in Salt Lake City. The match moved UNM to 11-8 overall and 2-4 in the MWC. The win means the Lobos will be tied for 4th place in the conference with Utah and UNLV.
UNM came out strong sweeping the doubles action as all three tandems netted 8-3 wins. Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski got back on track winning their match against Kielbowicz and Campbell at No. 1. Johnny Parkes and Miles Bugby continued their hot hands against Massaro and Hunter at No. 2. While Senior Eric Conklin and freshman Greame Kassautzki handled Hooper and Wrontzki at No. 3 to earn the first point.
In singles action New Mexico got solid play from the one and two positions as Jones and Parkes won their matches against their Rebel counterparts to give UNM three of their four points. The Lobos picked up the last point they needed to avoid another tough one point loss when Freshman Chandler Brass put away Burrows at No. 6 6-4, 7-6.
New Mexico will take two weeks off before competing in the Mountain West Conference Championships on April 27 in San Diego.
