SALT LAKE CITY UT – The University of New Mexico dropped the second of three matches in Salt Lake City this weekend as they fell this afternoon 4-3 to No. 56 Utah. The loss moves the Lobos to 10-8 on the 2006 season and 1-4 in the MWC.
The day started with doubles competition with Utah taking two of the three matches to earn the point. Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski fell 9-7 to Zach Ganger and Nick Coutts who are currently ranked 15th by the ITA in doubles. New Mexico notched a win at No. 2 doubles as Johnny Parkes and Miles Bugby won their 3rd straight match.
The Lobos came fighting back as they netted victories at positions 2-4 with Parkes, Graeme Kassautzki and Pajkowski defeating their Ute counterparts in straight sets. The other three matches were won by Utah. UNM didn’t go down without a fight however as they took all three of the matches into the third set. Jones and Chandler Brass fell in the third set 7-6 at positions 1 and 5 respectively. Miles Bugby also took his match to the brink before falling 6-2,4-6,6-2 to Ryan Scott at No. 6.
The Lobos will hit the court again tomorrow morning against UNLV.
