Albuquerque, N.M. – The 48th ranked Lobos fell to MWC leader No. 20 TCU today at the Lobo Tennis Club in a home match, 2-5. Despite the loss, senior Maja Kovacek had a huge win against TCU’s No. 12 in the nation Nicole Leimbach. New Mexico is now 13-5 in their season, 4-2 MWC.
The Lobos had a tough start winning one doubles match. The duo of Lucy Scott and Ola Abou-Zekry defeated TCU’s Anna Sydorska and Andrea Morgado, 8-4. In singles action New Mexico earned two points at the No. 1 and No. 5 spots. No. 39 Kovacek defeated No. 12 Leimbach at the No. 1 spot, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5. Ola Abou-Zekry earned UNM’s second point at the No. 5 spot defeating Kewa Nichols, 6-4, 6-1.
The Lobos are back in action tomorrow, April 14 at 2 p.m. taking on No. 33 SDSU at the Lobo Tennis Club. Come out and support your UNM women’s tennis team!
