University of New Mexico men’s basketball coach Ritchie McKay announced the signing of Sean Imadiyi (a-MAH-dee) to a National Letter-of-Intent today. Imadiyi, a 6-7 forward from Tempe, Ariz., led his Corona del Sol High School squad to a 28-2 record and the Arizona 5A state championship game last season. Imadiyi will join incoming freshmen Derek Oestricher (A-striker) and Roman Martinez and junior college transfer Jeffrey Henfield as newcomers to the Lobo basketball program in the fall.

Athletic forward who can play in the post or on the wing…Name is pronounced a-MAH-dee…Led his Corona del Sol high school squad to a 28-2 record and an appearance in the Arizona 5A state championship game…Corona del Sol was ranked No. 1 in Arizona most of the 2005-06 season…Averaged 17.5 ppg and 9.5 rpg as a senior…Set a school record with 68 blocks on the year…Named the Central Region Player of the Year in Arizona…Member of the East Valley (Ariz.) Tribune all-area team…Comes from the same high school as former Lobo Lamont Long (1997-2000) who ranks third on UNM’s all-time scoring list…Son of Felix and Sharon Imadiyi…Father ran track at Arizona and competed in the 400 meters at the 1976 and 1980 Olympics for Nigeria…Sister, Latoya, is a sophomore on the Arizona State track team…Has another sister, Natasha.
