ALBUQUERQUE N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team (9-5) had their 4 match win streak snapped today as they fell 5-2 to BYU (8-14). The loss was the Lobos first in over a month and the first in conference.

UNM started off strong winning the doubles point on the strength of their No. 1 doubles tandem of Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski who slipped past James Ludlow and Jose Lechuga 9-7. The win improves Jones and Pajkowski to 11-2 in 2006. Eric Conklin and Graeme Kassautzki won for the third consecutive time at No. 3 to give New Mexico the early advantage.

In Singles action Jones was back at No. 1 after a three match hiatus and pushed Ludlow for two sets before falling 6-4, 7-5. Johnny Parkes played the No. 2 position and gathered the Lobos lone singles victory defeating Dominick Kaufhold 6-4, 6-0 Parkes has now won 4 in a row.

The rest of the action was all Cougars as they defeated the Lobos in straight sets.

New Mexico will not have time to dwell on the loss as they return to the court tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. to take on the No. 29 Horned Frogs of TCU at the UNM Tennis Complex. Today’s matches were played indoors due to high winds in the Albuquerque area, tomorrows match is scheduled to be played outside weather permitting.
