Point of InterestThis will mark the 94th time the Lobos and Aggies have met in tennis. UNM has 83 wins that is the most for New Mexico against any one program.
Looking at the LobosNew Mexico (8-4) is curently ranked No. 67 by the ITA going into the April 1st match against NMSU. The Lobos are on a three match win streak and will look to push that number to four come saturday. UNM freshman Johnny Parkes has been hot lately and has moved into the No. 1 singles Position previously held by sophomore Max Jones. Jones is currently playing No. 2 singles but it isn’t that Jones has been bad of late, more so that Parkes has just been so hot. In doubles Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski hold down the No. 1 spot while parkes and Bugby usually play No. 2. New Mexico holds a comanding 83-9 advantage over the Aggies and the last time NMSU won a match was 2000. The Lobos are coached by 10th year man Alan Dils.
Looking at NMSUNew Mexico State heads into the weekends match with a 12-7 record overall. The Aggies are 3-1 in the WAC Conference and are currently in third place. In their 12 victories this spring, the Aggies have amassed four 7-0 shutouts and four 6-1 wins while winning six of eight matches from Jan. 26 to Feb. 12. UNM and NMSU will get together at the new NMSU Tennis Center this weekend, it will be the first match played by the men at the new facility. The Aggies are coached by Don Ball who is in his 21st year as both mens and womens tennis coach.
Tremedous at No. 1Through the first 12 matches of 2006 the Lobos are 10-2 at No. 1 doubles good for a . winning percentage. All nine of the wins belong to Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski who are currently ranked No. 40 by the ITA. The duo has lost just once at no. 1 doubles with the second loss coming when New Mexico had secured the match against Hawaii and Coach Dils decided to shake up the lineup and pair Pajkowski with Johnny Parkes.
Lobos In the RankingsSophomores Max Jones and Kamil Pajowski remained nationally ranked by the ITA in doubles at No. 40.The duo is an impressive 12-1 in 2005-06 including an 10-1 record in the spring.
Whats on tapNew Mexico will return home to start the 2006 Mountain West Conference schedule as they host BYU, TCU, and Air Force on April 6-8th at the UNM Tennis Complex.
