TUCSON, Ariz. – Senior Jay Choi won medalist honors as the University of New Mexico men’s golf team finished eighth at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Arizona. The Lobos shot a final round 5-over par 293 and finished 6-over par (282-295-293=870) on the par-72, 7,148-yard, OMNI Tucson National Golf Course. The team title went to UCLA at 13-under par, seven-strokes in front of Arizona State.
Choi is the first UNM player to claim medalist honors this season and it is his second career varsity tournament win. Choi shot a 1-under par 70 today and finished the tournament at 6-under par (69-70-71=210). Other New Mexico results were freshman Nick Geyer tied for 16th at 1-under par (72-73-70=215), sophomore Robb Bierbaum (74-76-74=224) and freshman Steve Saunders (70-76-78=224) tied for 61st at 8-over, junior Charlie Beljan withdrew in the final round for no finish and freshman Travis Reid, playing as an individual, tied for 49th at 5-over par.
