Fort Worth, Texas – No. 38 New Mexico is 2-0 in MWC conference matches after defeating the Colorado State Rams today in a 6-1match at Fort Worth, Texas.
The Lobos doubles teams took the first point of the match after winning at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Nora Quintal and Jennifer Ryba were first to finish after they defeated Jasmin Singh and Jessica Jones, 8-3. At the No. 2 spot Lucy Scott and Ola Abou-Zekry won their second doubles match of the weekend by defeating Lauren Strasberger and Carla Pallares 8-4.
The UNM singles overpowered Colorado State after winning five of the six singles matches. Scott led the Lobo pack finishing first with a 6-0, ret. at the No. 5 spot against Jones. Quintal followed at the No. 3 spot with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 defeating Strasberger. No. 114 Iva Gersic took over from there with a victory against Emily Kirchem 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1, while Abou-Zekry defeated her opponent, Pallares, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4. To finish off the wins for the Lobos was Mackenzie White with a win at No. 6 defeating Singh 2-6, 6-2 (10-6)
The Lobos finish up their weekend in Fort Worth, Texas tomorrow, March 26 with a match at 10 a.m. New Mexico will take on the Wyoming Cowgirls.
