UNM Plays Host to Northern Arizona This Weekend

Looking at the LobosNew Mexico is 7-4 overall going into a March 25 match against NAU. The Lobos went 2-0 in Honolulu defeating Hawaii and Navy. UNM is 4-3 at home this season with all three losses coming at the hands of ranked teams. New Mexico has used the same combination in singles for all but one of their matches, with freshman Miles Bugby getting his first start at No. 5 against Navy. The Lobos are coached by 10th year man Alan Dils.

Briefing on the LumberjacksNAU is 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the Big Sky Confrence heading into the match with UNM on March 25. Holding Down No. 1 singles is Gareth Ducray, No. 2 is played by Jeffrey Morys. Northern Arizona is coached by first year man Dean Owens. A native of Cape Town, South Africa, Owen comes to NAU from Boise State where he served two seasons as an assistant women’s tennis coach and another two seasons as an assistant men’s tennis coach.

Tremedous at No. 1Through the first nine matches of 2006 the Lobos are 9-2 at No. 1 doubles good for a .818 winning percentage. All nine of the wins belong to Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski who are currently ranked No. 40 by the ITA. The duo has lost just once at no. 1 doubles with the second loss coming when New Mexico had secured the match against Hawaii and Coach Dils decided to shake up the lineup and pair Pajkowski with Johnny Parkes.

Lobos In the RankingsSophomores Max Jones and Kamil Pajowski remained nationally ranked by the ITA in doubles at No. 40.The duo is an impressive 11-1 in 2005-06 including an 9-1 record in the spring.

Whats on tapUNM will head south down I-25 to face in state rivals New Mexico State in a match to determine state bragging rights for 2006. The Lobos and Aggies will get together for the 93rd time on April 1 at 11 a.m. in Las Cruces. UNM holds a 83-9 advantage in the all-time series.
