LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The University of New Mexico men’s golf team struggled to 14th place in the opening round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas, Nev. The Lobos shot a 28-over par 316 on the 7,510 yard, par-72 Southern Highlands Golf Club. Georgia and host UNLV share the lead at 7-over par.
Individually for UNM, sophomore Robb Bierbaum led the way at 5-over par and is tied for 32nd. Other Lobo results were freshman Travis Reid is tied for 42nd at 5-over par, junior Charlie Beljan is tied for 54th at 8-over par and senior Jay Choi and freshman Steve Saunders are tied for 60th at 9-over par.
The individual lead belongs to Daniel Im of UCLA at 3-under par and is two strokes in front of C.J. Gatto of UNLV.
The second round of the Southern Highland Collegiate is tomorrow with 18-holes of play and concludes Sunday. Live results and stats can be found at www.golfstat.com.
