Milwaukee, Wis. – The No. 37 New Mexico women’s tennis team continues its winning streak with the eighth consecutive win coming over Marquette (6-1) today at the Halfaer Tennis Club in Milwaukee, Wis. The Lobos are now 8-1 in the season after winning both dual matches this weekend.
The Lobos remained strong in the doubles action taking all three spots. Iva Gersic and Lucy Scott teamed up at the No. 1 doubles to defeat Maria Calbeto and Lauren Little 8-2. Maja Kovacek and Ola Abou-Zekry also had an easy match winning 8-2 against Francina Bonnelly and Dominika Dabrowski. Nora Quintal and Jennifer Ryba earned another victory at the No. 3 doubles defeating Andrea Bukacek and Erin Watkins 8-4.
New Mexico had a more successful day in singles action winning five of the six singles matches. The Lady Lobos won in two sets each and held their opponents to a maximum of three points in every set. Gersic led the team at the No. 1 spot defeating Calbeto 6-1, 6-1. Nora Quintal played at the No. 3 spot and defeated Erin 6-1, 6-3. Scott, at the No. 4 spot, had a victory over Dabrowski, 6-1, 6-2 while Ryba had a win against Bonnelly (6-2, 6-2) in the No. 5 spot. To finish off the singles victories Mackenzie White defeated Bukacek 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
