OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The University of New Mexico women’s swimming & diving team remains in seventh place after day three of the Mountain West Conference Championships at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatic Center. The Lobos, with 205 points, trail Utah’s 458, BYU’s 393, UNLV’s 386, TCU’s 295, Wyoming’s 294.5 and Colorado State’s 255.5. Air Force and SDSU are still behind the Lobos with 134 and 127 points, respectively.
Senior Robyn Miller captured her second medal of the championships thus far. Miller received the silver in the 400-yard IM, just shy of taking the gold. Miller’s time of 4:42.89 trailed UNLV’s Ana Danalakova’s time of 4:24.69. Miller also took the silver home from last year’s MWC Championships in the same event. Her time this year also set a new top time for the Lobos.
Swimming a top time did not stop with Miller. Freshman Kristen Naber’s time of 58.07 in the 100-yard butterfly earned her 12th place and a new top time.
Senior Kelsey Leckovic also took 12th place, but in the 200-yard freestyle finishing with a time of 1:52.76, which was also a new top time this season.
Sophomore Tori Clarridge placed sixth (57.35) in the 100-yard backstroke setting yet another individual top time for the Lobos. Clarridge was also a part of the 400-yard medley relay team, along with sophomore Andrea Zarins, junior Jenna Syverson and Miller, that earned another sixth place finish with a final time of 3:53.45.
On the 3-meter springboard, junior Carrie Quinn placed eighth with a final score of 263.75.
The MWC Swimming & Diving Championships conclude Saturday, Feb. 25, following the 6 p.m. finals events and the announcement of the individual and team awards.
