Abou-Zekry and Scott Earn First Career Ranking At No. 49Updated national rankings were released today with UNM remaining at No. 38

The doubles team of Ola Abou-Zekry and Lucy Scott earned its first career ranking of No. 49 in the nation according to the Fila Rankings released today. These are the first updated individual rankings since January 10, 2006 when the 2006 season began.

Scott and Abou-Zekry are currently 4-2 in the season with their two defeats coming from Northwestern on Jan. 19 and OSU on Feb. 18. The duo defeated two ranked teams this season to earn their national ranking, the No. 34 duo from Arizona State on Jan. 26 and the 23rd ranked pair from Texas Tech on Feb. 12. There are 60 ranked doubles team in all.

The tandem of Iva Gersic and Maja Kovacek continues to prove itself a threat this season as they remain No. 3 in the nation. They are undefeated (7-0) as they play at the No. 1 spot on UNM’s doubles line-up.

Maja Kovacek remains a nationally recognized player at the No. 24 spot in singles rankings. Her record this season is 8-3 with defeats coming at Northwestern, Arizona State and Washington.

The UNM team remains at the No. 38 spot with a 6-1 record. The team has a bye week this week. They will return to action March 4 to take on Marquette at 10 a.m. and Ohio State on March 5 at 10 a.m. in Milwaukee, Wis.
