For the seventh consecutive semester, student-athletes enrolled at the University of New Mexico combined for a grade-point-average of 3.0 higher. The overall GPA for the Lobos’ 21 athletics programs during the 2005 fall semester was 3.04 according to the UNM registrar’s office. That ties for the second-highest semester GPA since the school began tracking grades in the fall of 1988.
“Our student-athletes are consistently averaging above a 3.0 since this is the seventh straight semester they have reached this level,” said athletics director Rudy Davalos. “There may have been some skeptics who thought it would not be possible to maintain this type of academic success, so it’s an accomplishment that our coaches and student-athletes can take great pride in. They’re getting it done and I’m real proud of them.”
