SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) – Shona Thorburn helped hand New Mexico its first losing streak in more than two years.
Thorburn scored 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Utah posted a 75-62 Mountain West Conference win over the Lobos.
New Mexico (16-6, 6-3 MWC), which was coming off a 60-55 loss at BYU on Thursday, had not lost consecutive contests since falling to South Carolina on December 6, 2003, and to Texas two days later.
The Lobos had not lost back-to-back conference games since February 6-8, 2003.
Kim Smith collected 14 points and 16 rebounds and Jessica Perry added 13 points for the Utes (15-5, 6-3), who held a 42-28 advantage on the glass.
Dionne Marsh scored 19 points to pace New Mexico.
