New Mexico won its fourth straight and improved to 11-2 atThe Pit this season…the Lobos have won 31 straight homegames against Mountain West Conference foes…UNLV was thelast MWC team to win in Albuquerque on Jan. 6,2002.
Tonight’s attendance was a season-high 17,057 and the11th-largest crowd to see a UNM women’s basketball game inThe Pit…it was the first time UNM had surpassed the 17,000mark since March 6, 2004 when 17,472 watched UNM defeatColorado State…New Mexico is 8-3 all-time when its homecrowd is over 17,000.
UNM has now won five of its last six meetings with UNLV,though the Rebels still hold a 18-11 overall lead in theseries…New Mexico is 8-4 against UNLV in The Pit…the13-point victory is the most by the Lobos in the seriessince a 79-51 home victory in 2001 (28 points)…the lastfive games had been decided by five points or less.
The Rebels 47 points were a season-low…UNM has held 7opponents to less than 50 points this season…in their lastfour games the Lobos are holding opponents to an averageof 46.3 points.
New Mexico held a 44-34 advantage on the boards…enteringthe game UNLV had outrebounded its opponents by an averageof 6.5 per game…the Lobos’ 19 offensive rebounds were themost since pulling down 20 in the season-opener againstOral Roberts.
Junior point guard Katie Montgomery scored a career-high21 points, hit a career-high 5 threes and had acareer-high 10 3-point attempts.
Sophomore forward Dionne Marsh notched her seconddouble-double of the season and fifth of her career, goingfor 15 points and 10 rebounds…the 10 boards matched hercareer-high.
Senior post Jana Francis matched her career-high with 4assists…sophomore guard Brandi Kimble also matched hercareer-high with 3 assists.
