COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of New Mexico women’s diving team participated in the Air Force Academy Diving Invitational this weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo. The women competed against seven other teams from near-by states, Air Force, BYU, Colorado College, Colorado State, Denver, Utah and Wyoming.
Junior Carrie Quinn was the top diver for the Lobos. She placed second in the 3-meter springboard prelims with a score of 268.65. In the finals on this event Quinn finished fourth with a final score of 263.75. Quinn trailed Utah’s Kelsey Patterson’s 303.15 points, Wyoming’s Brittany Wainwright’s 298.80 pts. and Colorado State’s Elyse Hall’s 266.35 pts. Quinn also took third on the 1-meter springboard with a final score of 258.95.
Junior Joanna Garcia placed 23rd out of 32 competitors on the 1-meter springboard with a final score of 192.70. Sophomore Tiffany Blackstone finished close behind in 25th place with a final score of 184.00.
Freshman diver Kathryn Blair did not compete in Colorado Springs, Colo., but in Las Cruces, N.M. along with the swim team and scored 112.28 points on the 1-meter springboard.
The Lobos will now get ready to compete against conference competitor TCU on Feb. 3 at home beginning at 6 p.m. The next day they will take on the Rebels of UNLV (another conference competitor) at the Seidler Natatorium beginning at 12 p.m.
