The Pit/Bob King Court – Albuquerque, N.M.
Head Coach Don Flannagan:
(Opening comment)
“We didn’t shoot particularly well, obviously, really badthe first half and didn’t improve a heck of a lot in thesecond half. The defense was excellent. It was a veryphysical game on both sides. They didn’t shootparticularly well either. I thought that key was ourblocking out and stopping their transition hoops and youcould see at the end of the game how effective they arewhen they want to go coast to coast, so we did a great jobthere. Offensive rebounds, which I thought was a key, they had 8 we had 19, that is probably the game rightthere and of course Katie Montgomery’s 3-point shootingwhich was outstanding.”
Did you say anything about shooting in time outs?
“No, every time I set up somebody they usually end upnot making it. In the process of cutting, screening andmoving that is where we get most of our shots. As far asrunning a set offense to get a shot, we rarely havesuccess. Usually the defense catches up with us.”
UNLV Head Coach Regina Miller
(Opening comment)
“Well we kept them to a lower shooting percentage which iswhat we wanted to do but we gave them a lot of secondchance opportunities, that’s where they scored. Their twokey players showed up, Montgomery and Marsh. I thought weneeded a little bit better play by our guards. We didn’thave a strong guard play and we made too many mistakes, that’s what happened.”
