Lobo Swimmers Head To Las Cruces, N.M., Divers Head To Colorado Springs, Colo. This Weekend

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – UPCOMING FOR THE LOBOS: The University of New Mexico women’s swimming & diving team, 1-8 overall, 0-6 in Mountain West competition, will be traveling to Las Cruses, N.M. on Jan. 28 to take on the Aggies of New Mexico State in their final away dual meet of the season. Competition will begin at 1 p.m. The last time these two teams met this season was in Albuquerque where both teams competed in the Lobo Invitational, the Lobos finishing third. The Lobos 897.50 points trailed Colorado State’s 1,321.50 points and Northern Arizona’s 948.50 points. New Mexico State finished fourth with a total of 453.50 points. In the 2004-05 season the Lobos and Aggies went head-to-head in the final home meet for the Lobos of the season. The Lobos cruised to a 164.5-114.5 victory. Going into their final dual meet of the regular season at home the Aggies are 2-7 overall, 1-5 in the WAC. After the meet the Aggies will then get ready to compete at the WAC Championships on Feb. 22 in San Antonio, Texas.

2006 Air Force Diving Invitational: The Lobos divers will not be competing in Las Cruces, but in Colorado Springs, Colo. where they will participate in the Air Force Diving Invitational. It will be a two day event with the competition on Friday Jan. 27 beginning at noon and on Saturday Jan. 28 at 9 a.m. Other teams making an appearance include BYU, Colorado College, Colorado State, Denver, Utah and Wyoming. At last year’s invite junior diver Carrie Quinn solidified second place with a total of 469.85 points.

Top Swimmer For The Lobos: Leading the way for the Lobos is senior Robyn Miller. Miller is currently ranked third in the Mountain West in the 200-yard butterfly and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle and the 400-yard individual medley. Miller also holds the record and top time this season in each of these events for the Lobos.

Top Diver For The Lobos: At the top for the Lobo divers is junior Carrie Quinn. Quinn holds the top scores of the season for the Lobos on both the 1- and 3-meter springboard.

The Future for the Lobos: After a weekend full of events, the Lobos will close out their regular season at home in Albuquerque with back-to-back dual meets against TCU and UNLV. Competition against TCU will be held on Feb. 3 beginning at 6 p.m. The following day the Lobos will take on UNLV in the Seidler Natatorium beginning at 2 p.m.
