Evanston, Ill. – New Mexico completes their final day at the Northwestern Invite in Evanston, Ill. on January 22, 2006 after playing a total of four teams; Northwestern University, Florida State University, Penn State University and Iowa University.
On the second day of the invite New Mexico met Iowa and Penn State in singles matches. The Lobo women dominated Iowa as senior No. 20 Maja Kovacek had a strong win against Iowa’s No. 21 Meg Racette 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. No. 45 Iva Gersic easily won her match against 93 ranked Milica Veselinovic from Iowa, 6-4, 6-3. Lucy Scott beat out Kayla Berry, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 while Ola Abou-Zekry won her match against Jacqueline Lee 7-6, 6-3.
New Mexico also had success against Penn State on the second day with Kovacek defeating Katelyn BeVard 6-3, 6-2. Abou-Zekry took a win over Lauren Holzberg 6-1, 6-1, and Lucy Scott won a close match against Leyla Morzan 7-5, 7-5.
Day three of the invite New Mexico played doubles matches against Iowa and Northwestern and had successful singles match against Northwestern when Mackenzie White defeated Doroty Dohanics 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
The final day of the invite New Mexico played Penn State in doubles matches and Northwestern in singles matches. Jennifer Ryba had her first singles win of the regular season against Northwestern’s Alexis Connell 6-4, 6-2.
