New Mexico Head Coach Ritchie McKay
“I thought that was an excellent college basketball game.
The fans certainly got their money’s worth. I was very impressed with Air Force going in. I knew they were very good. I thought they might be the best team that we’ve played all year long. What makes them so difficult is that you can play legitimate great defense for 22, 25 seconds and you still have to play as hard as you did the first 25 seconds which most teams aren’t used to. They can bury a three from long range and it’s so deflating from a coach’s standpoint, and from the fans in the stands. What I think our guys did a great job of is not letting that bother them. I think we played through Air Force’s toughness and our missed defensive opportunities. Taking nothing away from Air Force, I think they’re a very good team, that’s why I’m really impressed with our guys for the win.”
Air Force Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik
“I’m disappointed in the way we play on the road. The offensive execution against Wyoming and against New Mexico was awful. That’s very disappointing. Our inability to rebound the basketball is awful on the road. The type of shots that we manufacture has not been good. We had 11 assists – only had three at the half.”
