PROVO, Utah – The University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team lost today to BYU, 120.5-107.5, at the Stephen L. Richards Building in Provo, Utah.
Sophomores Carrie Quinn and Tiffany Blackstone turned in their best performances of the season on the 1-meter boards with scores of 282.15 and 211.28, respectively. Quinn was the top scorer on the 1-meter board. On the 3-meter board, Quinn took third with 251.70 points and Blackstone finished fourth with 240.93 points.
The top swimmer for the Lobos was sophomore Andrea Zarins who placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.78) tying her best time of the season. The Lobos were the strongest in this event with freshman Kristen Naber taking second place (1:12.90), sophomore Ashley LaBree coming in third 1:14.53 and senior Heather Morsilli placing fourth (1:14.68).
Juniors Jenna Syverson and Kelly Soldow, senior Robyn Miller and sophomore Tori Clarridge made up the winning relay team in the 200-yard freestyle with a final time of 1:39.27.
Freshman Katrina McLoughlin swam her best time this season 1:00.29 in the 100-yard butterfly which gave her the second place finish. Other second place finishers included senior Kelsey Leckovic in the 100-yard free (55.13), Clarridge in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.85), Syverson in the 50-yard free (25.20) and Miller in the 500-yard free (5:16.65).
After a fourteen day break the Lobos, now 0-6 in Mountain West competition, will be back on the road in Las Cruces, N.M. on Jan. 28, 2006 where they will face the Aggies of New Mexico State for the second time this season. Competition will begin at 1 p.m.
