The University of New Mexico ski team moved up to fourth place on the final day of the Alaska Anchorage Invite in Park City, Utah, behind another strong performance from the Alpine men’s squad. Freshman Tor Fodnesbergene won the men’s Alpine event, while three other Lobos placed in the top-10. UNM scored 491 points in the meet, trailing Denver (553), Colorado (551) and Utah (498) in the standings.

Junior Alex Mach scored a career-high third place showing in the men’s slalom while fellow junior Lars Loeseth placed fifth. Peter Roering, another junior, capped off a dominating performance by the Lobo men’s team, placing ninth in the race. Also racing for the Lobo men was sophomore Tyson McGinty (68th).

On the women’s side, senior Gladys Weidt and sophomore Amy Beresford placed 12th and 13th, respectively, in the women’s giant slalom. Sophomore Karin Ohlin came in 16th, leading the Lobo women’s to a fourth place showing in the event. Sophomore Vibeke Vilhelmsen placed 42nd in the race while senior All-American Kathrin Spenider fell during her second run.

The Lobos will now head to Bozeman, Mont. for the Montana State Invite, the second meet of the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association season. The meet will take place Jan. 14-15 with the Nordic Classic and Alpine GS races on Saturday. The Nordic Freestyle and Alpine SL events will run on Sunday.
