ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – UPCOMING FOR THE LOBOS: The University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team will be in Salt Lake City, Utah on Jan. 13, 2006 where they will face the Utes of The University of Utah in their sixth dual meet of the season. Competition for this meet will begin at 5 p.m. The following day the Lady Lobos will travel to Provo, Utah. The Lobos will compete against the Cougars of BYU on Jan. 14, 2006 beginning at 12 p.m. The Utes and Cougars are currenly tied for first place in the Mountain West Conference standings each with a MWC record of 2-0. Last year the Utes defeated the Lobos 167-128 in Albuquerque at the opening meet of the spring semester for the Lobos. At last year’s Lobo Invitational BYU defeated the Lobos with a final score of 137-106.

RECAP OF RECENT MEETS: The final dual meet of the fall semester for the Lobos took place in Flagstaff, Ariz. where the Lobos took on the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona University. The final score was 190-107 with the Lumberjacks being victorious, winning 14 of the 16 events. The Lobos finished tenth, with a total of 300.5 points, at the Speedo Cup Invitational hosted by the University of California-Irvine on, Nov. 19, 2005. A total of 22 teams from around the country were present at the meet. Stanford finished in first with a total of 1760.5 points. The Stanford women did not lose a single event they competed in. On Nov. 15, the Lobos were defeated 189-111 by the Aztecs of San Diego State University. Senior Robyn Miller was the top swimmer for the Lobos, with two first place finishes, one in the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.91) and the other in the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.28).

TOP SWIMMER FOR THE LOBOS: Currently, the top swimmer for the Lobos is senior Robyn Miller. Miller holds individual top times in the 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard free, 200-yard butterfly and 400-yard individual medley. Miller holds the record for the fastest time in each of the four above events. So far this season Miller has a total of seven individual first place finishes, five second and two third.

TOP DIVER FOR THE LOBOS: Sophomore Carrie Quinn is currently the top diver for the Lobos. Quinn has placed first on both the 1-meter springboard and 3-meter springboard in three dual meets this season. She also has two second place finishes, both on the 1-meter. Quinn holds the top scores for the Lobos with 271.35 points on the 1-meter and 414.40 points on the 3-meter.

THE FUTURE FOR THE LOBOS: After the two meets in Utah the Lobos (1-6 overall, 0-4 MWC) will have a 14 day break before they travel to Las Cruces, N.M. to face the Aggies of NMSU on Jan. 28. Competition will begin at 1 p.m.
