New Mexico won for the fourth time in its last 5 games and extended its home winning streak to 17, matching the 4th-longest in school history…the last loss was more than a year ago, an 81-74 setback to No. 5 Wake Forest on Dec. 22, 2004.
UNM improved to 69-12 in the Lobo Invitational and advanced to the championship game for the 39th time.
Dartmouth made its fifth appearance in the Lobo Invitational, the most of any visiting team…the Big Green are 1-8 all-time in the tourney, including 0-4 against UNM…the Lobos are 14-0 against teams from the Ivy League.
New Mexico used its fifth different starting lineup of the year…the Lobos had the same starting five for the first 7 games of the season (4-3 record), but have had four different starting lineups the past 5 games (4-1 record).
Dartmouth hit its first shot of the night then missed 10 straight during a 14-2 UNM run over the next 9 minutes…the Big Green, however, shot 60% (15-25) from the floor in the 2nd half and were 8-10 from 3-point range over the final 20 minutes…Dartmouth hit its first six 3s of the second half
Dartmouth shot 53.3% from 3-point range, the best by a Lobo opponent this season…New Mexico had held its opponents to just 30.9% shooting from beyond the arc in the first 11 games.
INDIVIDUAL
Senior guard Jeff Hart hit a season-high 3 3-pointers (all in the 1st half) and scored a season-high 11 points…it was Hart’s first game in double figures in over 3 years, since scoring 14 at Texas Tech on Dec. 18, 2002 as a freshman…Hart is 5-5 from beyond the arc and has scored 17 points in his last 2 games
Freshman guard Ryan Kersten is 12-23 (52%) from 3-point range over the past 5 games, including 10-17 (59%) in his last 4 games at The Pit.
Freshman forward Daniel Faris played 10 minutes tonight…Faris had played in just 3 of the last 8 games, for a total of 7 minutes before tonight.
