ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP)Mark Walters scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half and New Mexico used a pair of early scoring runs to beat Mississippi 95-42 at the Jim Thorpe Classic Saturday night.

This one was over early as New Mexico (2-0) used an 18-2 run to take a 31-13 lead, then closed out the first half with a 13-0 run for a 44-15 lead.

Mississippi (1-1) trailed 13-11 with 11:00 left in the first half when New Mexico reserve guard Jeff Hart hit a 3-pointer to start the 18-2 run. Walters scored seven points and David Chiotti had four in the run.

The Rebels’ only points in that stretch was a tip-in by Trey Hampton. It was Ole Miss’ only field goal in the final 11 minutes of the first half.

The loss was the worst for Mississippi since 1991, when the Rebels lost to Georgia 117-62. It also tied for the fifth worst loss in school history.

Ole Miss hit just 14 of 55 shots (25.5 percent) and was 4-of-24 on 3-pointers. The Rebels had no one in double figures, with Bam Doyne and Mike Smith the team’s high scorers with 7 points each.

New Mexico also dominated the rebounding by a margin of 50-24.

New Mexico hit 14 of 27 3s, with five players hitting at least two 3-pointers. Walters had a trio of 3s, all in the first half.

Walk-on Blake Harden and Chad Toppert each scored 11 points for New Mexico and Anthony Teague scored 10.
