IRVINE, Calif. – The New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team is in eleventh place with 83.5 points after day one at the Speedo Cup Invitational hosted by the University of California-Irvine. Stanford is currently leading the way winning all five events and accumulating a score of 551.5 points so far.

Senior Robyn Miller swam to twelfth place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:04.06, best of any other Lobo in that event and a personal best this season. There were a total of 103 competitors in the event. Senior Cassidy Lespreance took 50th place in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:16.05 which is personal best as well; junior Jen Hale placed 51st in this event. The Lobos had the eleventh place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.08. The top swimmer for the Lobos in the 200-yard individual medley was sophomore Rachel Evans who placed 49th out of 118 competitors with a time of 2:14.11, setting another personal best for the Lobos. Freshman Kristen Naber took 53rd in this event, sophomore Ashley LaBree placed 58th, freshman Katrina McLoughlin trailed LaBree by a second coming in 59th and freshman Summer Abt took 61st for the Lobos. In the 50-yard free sophomore Tori Clarridge was the top swimmer for the Lobos placing 20th out of 143 competitors with a final time of 24.62. Junior Jenna Syverson took 23rd in the same event. The day was concluded with the 400-yard medley relay and the Lobo’s “A” team had a twelfth place finish with a time of 4:01.95.

Lobos continue competition today at the Speedo Cup Invitational which concludes Saturday. Day two’s events will include the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and the 800-yard free relay.
