Head Coach Ritchie McKay

“Not many teams are winning this time of year by shooting 36 percent and one for ten in the second half on the three. I was please that grinded out a W. Let’s keep it in perspective. Missouri got beat by Sam Houston State just the other night. I knew this South Carolina State team, though they were down a few players, they are well coached, they don’t beat themselves, they have great athleticism, and I knew that we were going to see a ton of zone (defense). I think if we make shots we have a little easier time of it, but obviously we didn’t stretch the defense enough.”

“We’ve got some different defenses that we’re working on and I think we caught them a little off guard. We’ve got good personnel, we just didn’t get in transition. We didn’t make it easy on ourselves. I think we can do a much better job of executing, but I was pleased that we got the win.”

Head Coach Benjamin Betts, Jr.

“Certainly it was a hard fought game, Our hats go off to New Mexico. They have a fine team, a fine program and they’re very well coached. I thought we did a very good job of fighting to close the gap. I thought we had an opportunity to put ourselves in position and finish even better but we made some mistakes down the stretch. We didn’t take advantage of some of the opportunities.”

“We’re short handed, we’re missing some guys but we look forward to getting those guys back but certainly I’m not going to use that as an excuse for this team and where we’re at right now. We look forward to getting those guys and getting everyone healthy. Hopefully that time will come in the near future but right now we have a group of guys that we have to grow with and we have to improve and get better.”
