Junior defender Andrew Boyens was named to Soccer America’s National Team of the Week after his strong performances for the Lobos last weekend. Boyens, a native of Dunedin, New Zealand, scored a goal in New Mexico’s 3-1 win over San Jose State and played a solid game in UNM’s 1-1 tie at Sacramento State.

This is the second time this season Boyens has earned a spot on Soccer America’s National Team of the Week. The 2004 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation co-Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year has scored five goals and two assists in 2005, despite concentrating his efforts on the defensive side of the ball. Boyens has helped lead the Lobos to nine shutouts in 16 games and a 0.72 goals-against-average. UNM leads the MPSF in both categories.

The third-ranked Lobos (13-1-2, 5-1-2 MPSF) will play thier final home weekend of the regular season beginning Friday, Nov. 11, against Denver at 7:00 p.m. (M.S.T.). Nine UNM players will be honored on Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 13, against Air Force at 1:00 p.m. (M.S.T.). The Lobos need to sweep both of their remaining matches to clinch their fourth MPSF title in five years.
