LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of New Mexico junior varsity men’s golf team 14th at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. The Lobos shot a final round 298 on the par-72, 7,074 yard, New Mexico State University Golf Course to finish 30-over par (306-290-298=894). The team title went to Xavier who finished at 11-under par.

UNM was led in the final round by freshman Nick Geyer who shot a 71 in the final round. Geyer was also the top individual finisher for the Lobos at 1-over par (75-71-71=217) tied for 18th. Other Lobo results were senior Mark Anderson tied for 31st at 4-over par (73-71-76=220), freshman Steve Saunders tied for 64th at 12-over par (81-74-73=228), freshman Dan Saltz tied for 66th at 8-over par (78-74-78=230), Jacob Lestishen finished 75th at 21-over par (80-78-79=237) and freshman Guillermo Chavez playing as an individual tied for 66th at 8-over par (78-75-77=230).

Medalist honors went John Streibich of Xavier who defeated Tim Knight of Northern Colorado in a playoff. Both Streibich and Knight finished at 7-under par.

The New Mexico varsity golf team will return to the links on November 11-13 at the Hooters Match Play.
