TULSA, Okla. – Sophomore Max Jones, for the second consecutive year, has worked his way through one draw at the All-American Championships and into another. Jones advanced out of the Qualifying Draw and into the Main Draw with a 6-1, 6-2 win over No. 125 ranked Jarrett Chirico of Virginia in the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Center at the Univ. of Tulsa.

“Max is playing better and gaining confidence, which is what we wanted out of it,” head coach Alan Dils said. “He has at least two more matches and is entering a section of the tournament he has never been in.”

Last year, Jones advanced out of the Prequalifying Draw before falling in the second round of the Qualifying Draw.

Jones and classmate Kamil Pajkowski fell in the Quarterfinals of the Qualifying Draw to new Mountain West Conference members Rafael Abreu and Jacopo Tezza of TCU. The duo could get into the Main Draw as a lucky loser if one of the teams drop out.

“I’m very pleased with Max and Kamil as a doubles team,” Dils said. “They got in as an alternate, won two matches, made it to the Quarterfinals and still have an outside shot of making the Main Draw.”

Jones, ranked 97th in the nation, will take on Wake Forest’s Andrew Hamar, No. 70 in the Round of 64 tomorrow.
