TULSA, Okla. – Sophomore Max Jones, ranked No. 97 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, knocked off 64th-ranked Sander Koning of Clemson, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in the Round of 64 at the Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Center at the Univ. of Tulsa.

“Max has been struggling this fall and we have worked on things like how to handle situations and he is putting them into play,” head coach Alan Dils said. “Max is concentrating on every point and that has allowed him to win two close matches. Beating a player ranked ahead of him should give him more confidence.”

Jones, teamed with sophomore Kamil Pajkowski, started doubles action today with a 8-4 win over Indiana State’s Simon Thornewill and Anton Symbalov in the Round of 64. They cruised past Stanford’s Matt Bruch and James Wan in the Round of 32, winning 8-1.

“It’s always fun to beat Stanford,” Dils said. “They have a good coach and good players.”

The Lobos’ day kicks off at 9 a.m. ET with Jones taking on Virginia’s Jarrett Chirico, ranked No. 125, in the Round of 32. Jones and Pajkowski will take on either TCU’s Rafael Abreu and Jacopo Tezza, seeded No. 7 and ranked No. 34, or California’s Tyler Browne and Daniel Sebescen in the Quarterfinals. All of tomorrow’s winners will advance to the Main Draw of the tournament.
