ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Head coach Glen Millican announced today that Chris Wall has been named the assistant coach for the University of New Mexico men’s golf team. Wall a former Lobo comes to UNM after seven years on the Canadian Tour.

“I am exicted that Chris accepted the position here at UNM,” Millican said. “He is going to be a great addition to our program because he is an alumni, which gives him first hand experience of what it is like to play here, and his experience on the Candian Tour is invaluable to our program.”

Wall’s main responsibilities will include recruiting and heading the Top-100 Club, UNM’s main fundraising source. Wall will also contributes his vast experience at the collegiate and professional level to coach Lobo golfers with the mechanics of their swing and the mental aspect of competition.

Wall was a four-year letterwinner for New Mexico from 1995-99 under former coaches John Fields and J.T. Higgins. He had 10 top-20 finishes, including medalist honors at the 1998 Perry Maxwell Invitational. Wall had a career stroke average of 74.60 and played in the NCAA Championships in two of his four seasons. His best career round was a 66 at the `98 Perry Maxwell Invitational, which is tied for the 15th lowest round in UNM history, while his best 54-hole score was 209 at the 1997 NCAA Fall Preview where he finished third.

After graduating from UNM in 1999, Wall began play on the Canadian Tour where he had 14 top-20 finishes from 2003-04, including five top-5 finishes. Wall also made 19 consecutive cuts between 2003-04 and, entering 2005, had made 23 cuts in his last 24 tournaments with eight top-10 finishes. Wall’s best finish on the Canadian Tour was third at 2003 and 2004 Corona Ixtapa Classic and the 2004 E-Loan Central Valley Classic. His best finish on the money list was seventh in 2003. Wall also qualifed for the 2001 U.S. Open played at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Okla.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Wall earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from UNM in 1999. The 30-year old Wall enjoys hunting, fishing and skiing in his free time. Wall is married to the former Nicole Knutson, a Lobo soccer player from 1993-97.
