University of New Mexico senior men’s soccer player Jeff Rowland was named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week after scoring his second career hat-trick in a 7-2 win over UNLV this weekend. This is Rowland’s second appearance on CollegeSoccerNews.com’s team of the week this season and the third in his career.

Rowland, a 2005 Hermann trophy Candidate, had been mired in a scoring drought prior to Saturday’s game against UNLV, having put only one ball in the net in the previous seven games. That all changed quickly against the Rebels as he scored two goals in the game’s first five minutes. He capped off the hat-trick with his third goal at the 25:33 mark in the first half.

With 23 points on 11 goals and an assist, Rowland leads the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in scoring and goals. He also ranks 20th in the NCAA in scoring and is 10th in goals in the nation. He is also making his mark on UNM’s all-time record book. His 91 career points and 40 career goals both rank third all-time at New Mexico.

The Lobos hit the road this weekend for a rematch against UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. (M.D.T.) and is the first of a three game road trip for New Mexico. The Lobos next home game is Friday, November 11, at 7:00 p.m. (M.S.T.) against Denver at the UNM Soccer Complex.
