WINDEMERE, Fla. – The University of New Mexico men’s golf team moved up six spots from a tie for 15th to ninth in the final round of the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational. The Lobos shot the third lowest round of the day with a 21-over 309 in the very difficult windy conditions. UNM finished at 45-over par (299-301-309=909) on the par-72, 7,493 yard Isleworth Country Club Course. The team title went to No. 1 Georgia, who won by seven strokes at 8-over par.
Individually UNM was led in the final round by sophomore Robb Bierbaum who shot a 2-over par 74. Senior Jay Choi was the top Lobo finisher overall as he tied for sixth at 3-over par (68-76-75=219) Other Lobo results were junior Charlie Beljan moved up 17 spots to finish tied for 18th at 7-over par (78-70-75=223), Bierbaum tied for 59th at 17-over par (83-76-74=233), freshman Travis Reid tied for 80th (77-81-85=243) and freshman Guillermo Chavez tied for82nd at 28-over par (76-79-89=244).
Medalist honors went to Pablo Martin of Oklahoma at 4-under par, two strokes in front of Chris Kirk of Georgia. Martin and Kirk were the only two players under par.
