LAS VEGAS – Sophomore tandem Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski, seeded seventh, and senior Eric Conklin and freshman Graeme Kassautzki advanced to the Round of 16 in doubles action at the Wilson/ITA Region VII Championships today. Jones and Pajkowski dropped Utah’s Wes Hancock and Ryan Scott, 8-5, in their first match of the tournament while Conklin and Kassautzki won by default over Colorado’s 15th-seeded Marek Dvorak and Jan Zelezny.
Freshmen Johnny Parkes and Chandler Brass also competed in doubles, falling 8-4 in the Round of 32 to fifth-seeded Chad Tsuda and Eric Molnar of Colorado.
Jones netted a 6-4, 6-0 win over Boise State’s Brent Werbeck in the Round of 32 but was upset by 11th-seeded Joel Kielbowicz of UNLV 6-2, 6-3 in the Round of 16. Parkes, Kassautzki and Pajkowski all fell in the Round of 32. Parkes lost 6-4, 6-2 to fourth-seeded Federico Ueltschi of Montana State, Kassautzki lost 6-2, 5-7, 7-3 to 28th-seeded Romain Massar of UNLV and Pajkowski lost 6-3, 7-5 to second-seeded Adam Holmstrom of Denver.
In the consolation Round Three Qualifier, brass fell 6-2, 6-0 to Dantley Young and Conklin fell 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to Stuart Wing of Montana.
The Lobos return to the court tomorrow for day three action with singles slated for 9 a.m. and doubles at approximately 4:30 p.m.
