PROVO, Utah – No. 16 BYU dropped the New Mexico volleyball team in three games tonight, just the third time all season the Lobos have been shut out and the first since Sept. 3. Senior Nicole Ryan led the Lobos with seven kills, an ace and a solo block.

Junior Kelly Therkelsen racked up four blocks, moving up UNM’s career list for block assists with 210, placing her eighth. Therkelsen needs four blocks to take over seventh place and seven to move into sixth, a feat she could accomplish this week.

The Cougars jumped on New Mexico in game one, building a 15-5 lead sparked by Rachel Dyer and Erica Lott, who put down five and six kills, respectively. BYU went on for a 30-15 win.

New Mexico opened game two with a three-point lead until BYU rattled off three straight points to even the game at 10. The teams battled with the last tied coming at 15, when BYU stung together a 5-0 run. BYU outscored New Mexico 15-3 over the final 15 points for a 30-18 win.

Game three replicated game two with the Lobos again building an early three-point lead. BYU evened the game at eight with the last tie coming at 14 before BYU went on a 16-8 run for the 30-22 win.

Freshman Michelle Miller put down five kills with a team-high four digs for New Mexico while senior Chelsea Sondrup added four and four blocks. Freshman Sarah Kwasigroch dished out a team-high 17 assists.

Lott led BYU with 12 kills while Chelsea Goodman chipped in wtih 11. Lexi Patterson hit .800 (8K-0E-10TA) while Lauren Evans hit .714 (6K-1E-7TA) with 38 assists, five digs and four blocks. The team hit .424 overall.
