New Mexico snapped a 3-game losing streak with today’s come-from-behind victory…the Lobos have won 6 straight over Wyoming, the team’s longest winning streak in the series since taking 7 in a row from 1969-75…UNM has won 3 in a row at Laramie for the first time since victories in 1970, ’72, and ’74…New Mexico is 7-2 in its last 9 Mountain West Conference road games (since 2003) and 15-8 in the month of October since the 1999 season.The Lobos avoided their first 4-game losing streak since 1998, head coach Rocky Long’s first year at New Mexico.Doak Walker Award candidate DonTrell Moore matched his career-high with 36 carries, finishing with a season-high 181 rushing yards and 3 rushing TDs against the MWC’s top-ranked defense…he also had 37 yards on 2 catches for 218 all-purpose yards…in 4 career games against the Cowboys Moore rushed for a total of 660 yards on 117 carries, averaging 165 yards per game…he rushed for 7 TDs on the ground and also caught 3 scores in his career against the Pokes for a total of 10 TDs…Moore’s rushing yards and attempts were both the best in his career vs. Wyoming…he also had 3 rushing scores against the Cowboys as a freshman in 2002.Moore moved ahead of former SMU and NFL great Eric Dickerson on the NCAA career rushing list and now ranks 34th all-time with 4,481 yards…Moore also passed other notables such as Bo Jackson (43rd), Troy Davis (38th) and Earl Campbell (36th) on the all-time rushing list…he needs 194 yards over his next 4 games to become the 6th player in NCAA history to rush for 1,000 yards or more 4 times in a career…the Roswell, N.M. native has rushed for 3 or more TDs in a game 4 times in his career…the 181 yards matched the 3rd-highest output of his career (at Colorado State, 11/23/02)…he last had 36 attempts (188 yards) vs. Air Force in 2003…his 218 all-purpose yards were the third-highest output of his career and second-highest this season (228 vs. TCU)…Moore helped UNM grind out 237 rushing yards on a season-high 66 carries…it was the most rushing attempts by New Mexico since the 1984 season-opener when UNM had 73 rushes for 490 yards vs. New Mexico State…7 different players carried the ball for the Lobos.New Mexico controlled the ball for a season-high 38:29 T.O.P…that’s the most since 38:41 last year against Texas, also a 27-24 victory.Junior QB Chris Nelson came on in relief of an injured Kole McKamey after McKamey was sidelined with a slight concussion midway through the 2nd quarter…McKamey was hit in the facemask by a Wyoming player who lowered his helmet as McKamey attempted to get to the ground after a 3-yard gain…Nelson finished an effective 8-14 passing for 91 yards and a long of 28, and also had 10 yards on 7 carries…he led the Lobos to 4 scoring drives (20 points) and UNM had no turnovers while he was in the game…the transfer from Garden City (Kansas) CC entered the afternoon with 2 previous appearances, running a predetermined first half series in the Lobos win at Missouri and in mop-up duty in a 38-21 victory over NMSU…his numbers in those games were 2-4 passing for -2 yards and 3 carries for 3 yards.Senior CB Mike Powdrell and junior S Aleem Harris recorded the first interceptions of their career…the Lobos now have 10 interceptions on the season, after 13 in 12 games in 2004.Junior TE John Mulchrone caught a career-high 3 passes for 16 yards…Junior WR Thomas Wilson came into the game with 5 catches for 32 yards with a long of 7 yards…he had 3 for 41 yards against the Cowboys, including a long of 22.P Tyler Gaus had a career-long 74-yard punt.
