ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Sophomore Max Jones was ranked among the nation’s best for the first time in his career at New Mexico. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its preseason rankings, seeding Jones No. 97 in singles.
Four other members of the Mountain West Conference, Air Force’s Shannon Buck (No. 28), San Diego State’s Markus Dickhardt (No. 75), UNLV’s Joel Kielbowicz (No. 85) and BYU’s Nima Roshan (No. 119), were also listed for singles. Boise State’s Luke Shields (No. 13) and Thomas Schoeck (No. 118), Denver’s Adam Holmstrom (No. 44), Colorado’s Marko Bundalo (No. 47) and Montana State’s Federico Ueltschi (No. 95) represented the Mountain Region.
Last year, Jones faced many of the players ranked above him. He beat Bundalo in two sets and just missed a win over Shields, taking him to three sets. Jones played at the top spot for New Mexico for the entire conference season, not getting to take on Dickhardt and Kielbowicz who were lower in the line-up.
