DENVER – The remaining Lobo men’s tennis players in the Denver Invitational were eliminated in day two’s competition. Freshman Graeme Kassautzki made it to the semifinals of the Singles Flight A draw. Kassautzki has appeared in the semis of both invitationals UNM has participated in this season.
Kassautzki topped Pepperdine’s Richard Johnson, the tournament No. 8 seed, 6-3, 6-4 in the Quarterfinals. Top-seed Shannon Buck of Air Force ended Kassautzki’s run in the semis with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
In Flight B Singles action, freshman Chandler Brass fell in the Quarterfinals to Utah’s Wes Hancock, 6-2, 6-0. Sophomore Derek Lynch netted a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win over Air Force’s Greg Ferry in the Second Round of Flight B Consolation Singles before falling in the Quarterfinals to Utah’s Ryan Scott, 6-0, 6-4.
Sophomore Max Jones and freshman Johnny Parkes fell 8-3 to Minnesota’s DJ Geatz and Andres Osorio in the Doubles Round of 16.
Jones will return to the court, participating in singles and doubles with sophomore Kamil Pajkowski at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships hosted by Tulsa, Oct. 3-9. The rest of the Lobos return to action Oct. 7-9, hosting the UNM Balloon Fiesta.
