COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of New Mexico junior quarterback Kole McKamey was named co-Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week the league announced today, along with TCU running back Aaron Brown. John Wendling (Wyoming) and Deric Yaussi (Wyoming) earned the defensive and special teams honors, respectively. McKamey earned the award for the second time in his career after leading New Mexico to a convincing 38-21 victory over in-state rival New Mexico State.

McKamey became the first Lobo to rush and pass for 150 yards in a game despite playing just the first three quarters on Saturday night. McKamey rushed 14 times for a career-high-tying 152 yards, including a 71-yard TD on an option keeper. He also gained 152 yards in last year’s Emerald Bowl against Navy. McKamey completed 12 of 19 passes for 172 yards, two touchdowns and his first interception of the season. The 324 yards of total offense ranks as his second-best output as a Lobo. McKamey, now 10-4 in his career as UNM’s starting quarterback, leads the Mountain West in total offense and passing effeciency.

OFFENSE: AARON BROWN, TCU, FRESHMAN, TAILBACK

In his collegiate debut, true freshman Aaron Brown rushed for 163 yards on 17 attempts (9.6 per carry) in TCU’s 23-20 overtime win over Utah. Brown was instrumental on two of the Horned Frogs scoring drives. He had five carries for 52 yards on TCU’s first touchdown drive, and totaled 53 yards on three attempts on the second. Brown rushed for 71 yards on seven first half carries and 92 yards on 10 second-half rushes.

DEFENSE: JOHN WENDLING, WYOMING, JUNIOR, FREE SAFETY

Wendling led Wyoming with 13 total tackles in the 29-28 road victory at Air Force. Wendling recorded six solo tackles and seven assists, and halted Air Force’s final drive of the game with an interception. With the Cowboys leading by one point and the Falcons on their own 41-yard line, Wendling picked-off Air Force quarterback Shaun Carney with 37 seconds remaining in the game to seal the victory.

SPECIAL TEAMS: DERIC YAUSSI, WYOMING, SENIOR, PLACE KICKER

Yaussi scored 11 points in Wyoming’s 29-28 win at Air Force. Yaussi connected on field goals of 23, 30 and 50 yards in the game. The 50-yard field goal came at the end of the first half to give the Cowboys 13-7 halftime lead.
