For the second time in school history the University of New Mexico men’s soccer team is on top of Soccer America’s Top-25. The Lobos are ranked No. 1 in this week’s poll after winning the TLC Plumbing and Utility Invitational last weekend at the UNM Soccer Complex. The Lobos defeated Wisconsin and James Madison to move to 6-0-0 on the season. New Mexico was also ranked No. 1 in the final regular season Soccer America Top-25 in 2004.

For the third week in a row a Lobo men’s soccer player has earned a spot on CollegeSoccerNews.com’s National Team of the Week. Senior Cody Hanna was selected for this week’s team after scoring two game-winning goals in the Lobos’ wins over Wisconsin and James Madison in the TLC Plumbing and Utility Invitational last weekend.

Hanna, a midfielder from Albuquerque (St. Pius X), notched his first career goal in the 64th minutes against Wisconsin on Friday, giving UNM a 3-2 lead in the match. The Lobos held on for the win, their third over a Big Ten opponent this season. On Sunday, Hanna scored the Lobos’ lone goal in a 1-0 win over James Madison, keeping New Mexico (6-0-0) undefeated on the season.

UNM is one of only three teams to remain unbeaten and untied on the year, joining No. 11 Akron (6-0-0) and Buffalo (7-0-0).
