ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s golf teams finished tied for 8th and alone in 15th at the 20-team 51st Annual William H. Tucker Invitational. The Lobo varsity team finished at 15-over par (297-294-288=879) on the par-72, 7,350 yard UNM Championship Course, while the UNM JV team finished at 27-over par (292-308-291=891). The Tucker championship went to UNLV at 13-under par (282-288-281=851) 10-strokes in front of BYU at 3-under par.
The Lobo varsity team was led by senior Jay Choi who tied for 17th at 1-over par (71-74-72=217). Following Choi was senior Mark Anderson tied for 23rd at 2-over par (72-75-71=218), freshman Nick Geyer tied for 39th at 4-over par (75-72-73=221), junior Charlie Beljan is tied for 60th at 8-over par (79-73-72=224) and sophomore Robb Bierbaum is tied for 72nd at 11-over par (79-75-73=227).
The second New Mexico team was led by freshmen Darrin Hall who is tied for 28th at 3-over par (71-76-72=219). Following Hall is freshmen Guillermo Chavez tied for 39th at 5-over par (71-80-70=221), freshmen Travis Reid tied for 72nd at 11-over par (75-75-77=227), freshmen Jacob Lestishen tied for 89th at 17-over par (83-77-73=233) and freshmen Dan Saltz tied for 98th at 21-over par (75-86-76=237).
Tucker medalist honors went to Andres Gonzalez of UNLV at 9-under par winning by two-strokes over teammate Jared Texter.
The Lobos return to action on Sept. 27-29 at the NCAA Preview in Bend, Ore.
