University of New Mexico Director of Athletics Rudy Davalos announced the hiring of Larry Ryan as the new Associate Athletics Director for Development. Ryan will oversee the Lobo Club, the branch of UNM Athletics that is responsible for raising funds for athletic scholarships.
“We had some excellent candidates for the position and we are excited to have Larry back in our department,” stated Davalos. “He will do an outstanding job for the Lobo Club and our athletics department.”
Ryan returns to UNM after spending the last three years as the senior associate director of athletics at the University of Evansville. Ryan was the Lobo Club’s Director of Annual Giving from 2000-02 where he directed all aspects of the University’s annual Lobo Club membership drive. He also coordinated the priority seating program for basketball, football and post-season tournaments, and directed numerous Lobo Club events.
At Evansville, Ryan was involved in all day-to-day operations of the UE athletics department. He directed the areas of development, corporate sales and tickets. He also served as the administrator for the sports of baseball, softball, men’s soccer and women’s tennis, and for the strength and conditioning and athletic training programs.
Ryan is a 1997 graduate of California State University at San Bernardino, earning a degree in communication studies. He served one year following graduation as director of media and public relations/corporate marketing manager for the Lake Elsinore Storm, a Class A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. He then returned to his alma mater in 1998, first as marketing and promotions assistant for athletics, and then as director of development. In the latter capacity, Ryan was in charge of all scholarship fundraising efforts for athletics, corporate sponsorships and directed season ticket sales.
