COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Jacobe Kendrick (Air Force), Hank Baskett (New Mexico), Evroy Thompson(New Mexico) and Sergio Aguayo (UNLV) are Mountain West Conference Players of the Week. Kendrick and Baskett share Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Thompson takes the Defensive honor, and Aguayo receivesSpecial Teams recognition. Thompson collects his second career weekly honor, while Kendrick, Baskett and Aguayo are first time selections.
OFFENSE: Hank Baskett, NEW MEXICO, SENIOR, WIDE RECEIVER
Baskett turned in one of the best receiving performances in New Mexico history, recording career-highs of 10 receptions for 209 yards and three touchdowns in the 45-35 win at Missouri. He had touchdown receptions of 25 and 9 yards, the latter coming with 2:01 remaining in the game to seal the win. Baskett’s first trip to end zone came from on a 41-yard scoring reception from tailback DonTrell Moore. Baskett became the third Lobo to tally 200 yards receiving in a game and the first since Terance Mathis (252) did it against Utah in 1989. His three touchdown receptions tie a Mountain West record.
DEFENSE: Evroy Thompson, NEW MEXICO, SENIOR, DEFENSIVE END
Thompson had three solo stops, five assists, two tackles for loss, including a 10-yard sack, two quarterback hurries and a 28-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the 45-35 win at Missouri. He was on the field for a career-high 91 plays, with his fumble return for a touchdown coming three plays into the third quarter to break a 14-14 tie. It was Thompson’s first touchdown as a Lobo.
OFFENSE: JACOBE KENDRICK, AIR FORCE, JUNIOR, FULLBACK
Kendrick rushed for a career-high 128 yards on a career-most 26 carries (4.9 ypg) and scored a career-high four touchdowns in the 41-29 victory over San Diego State. His four touchdowns are the most by a Falcon since quarterback Chance Harridge scored four against BYU in 2002. Kendrick is the first Air Force fullback to go over 100 yards rushing since Dan Shaffer vs. Eastern Washington in the season opener last year. Kendrick is also only the second fullback to score four touchdowns in a game and first since Rodney Lewis accomplished the feat vs. Hawaii in 1989.
SPECIAL TEAMS: SERGIO AGUAYO, UNLV, SOPHOMORE, PLACE KICKER
Aguayo hit a career-long tying, game-winning 41-yard field goal as time expired to give UNLV a 34-31 win over Idaho. Aguayo scored 10 total points in the game, connecting on two field goals (26 and 41) and all four of his extra point attempts. His field goal at the end of the game was UNLV’s first game-winning field goal since 1992.
