ARDMORE, Pa. – University of New Mexico men’s golfer senior Jay Choi won his opening round match, while junior Charlie Beljan lost in the opening round of the 105th U.S. Amateur. Choi went one down to Morgan Hoffman on the second hole but regained the lead on the fourth hole and never trailed from there winning 1-up.

Beljan on the other hand lost the first hole and never really got anything going, as he never took the lead losing the match 5 and 4 to Billy Hurley.

The remaining 32 players at the U.S. Amateur will play one match in the morning and the winners of the morning matches will play a second match in the afternoon. Choi is scheduled to tee-off at 7:30 a.m. (MST) and will play Ryan Blaum. For all tee times, seeding and matches check the U.S. Amateur website at www.usamateur.org.
