ARDMORE, Pa. – Senior Jay Choi and junior Charlie Beljan of the University of New Mexico Lobo men’s golf team will advance to the match play section of the 105th U.S. Amateur finishing in a tie for third. Beljan the first round leader shot a second round six-over par 76 on the par-70 Merion Golf Club East Course to finish at even par (64-76=140), while Choi shot a two-over par 72 on the same course and is also even (68-72=140) after stroke play.

Redshirt freshman Darrin Hall and former Lobo Jay Reynolds didn’t make the cut. Reynolds just missed the cut after a one-under par 69 and finished at 7-over par (78-69=147) one stroke off the cut mark. Hall struggled again in the second round and finished at 19-over par (81-78=159).

The remaining 64 players at the U.S. Amateur will begin match play in a bracketed format tomorrow morning. For tee times, seeding and matches check the U.S. Amateur website at www.usamateur.org. Television coverage of the U.S. Amateur also begins tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. (MST) on The Golf Channel.
